the Garry McEwan Gallery 

The Garry McEwan Gallery was established in 1990 by Australian artist Garry McEwan. The gallery was a new concept for Melbourne- most artists were happy for a gallery to represent them but McEwan wanted to represent himself. Whilst this may not be a current trend, McEwan was one of the first artists to take these brave steps and since then, many artists have followed example- we now see many more artist run art spaces. 

After opening the Gallery in famous Acland Street in St. Kilda, McEwan was constantly approached by other artists wishing to exhibit their work in his Gallery. It wasn't long before the Garry McEwan Gallery was representing over 60 different Australian artists!

After 14 years in business in Melbourne, Garry McEwan relocated his gallery to Sydney and opened his doors in Darlinghurst about 5 years ago. Two highly successful exhibitions in Sydney have already cemented McEwan and his artists firmly into the Sydney art market.

Bang! Art + Gift 

McEwan's gallery morphed into Bang! Art + Gift- a shopping haven filled with designer homewares and gifts, hand-blown glass, paintings, sculptures and the best gift card selection in, dare we say, Australia! His gallery and gift shop, located in the heart of super cool Sydney (Macleay Street, Potts Point), continues to house some of Australia's up and coming and well respected artists.

"I wanted to create a space that is uplifting, vibrant and positive, and we attract these types of artists and customers. I am proud that our space is not elitist, snobby or intimidating; we have something for everyone and every budget." -Garry McEwan     

McEwan has a passion for art and a passion for retail- together with his visual merchandizing skills it is no wonder he has been enjoying a 15 year, highly successful career thus far.
